So, July 4 has come and Maya and I have both grown in age by another year (well Maya’s first and my 30th). It has seemed a bit like we’ve been partying the whole week. Ohh wait, we have been. The b-day festivities included a wide variety of fun things.
To kick the week long celebration off, we threw a party at our coach house for friends the Sunday before Maya’s 1st. We invited nearly 30 people and essentially, all of the came, which was an unbelievable show of support and interest (thanks for that). We served Hachor Pschorr, 312, Pacifico, Smoke Daddy’s BBQ (which was delish!), Sweet Mandy B’s cake and ice cream. No one left with an empty stomach and a good time was had by all (I think). Maya (and I) got lots of really great presents from our friends; wooly fruits, a giant V-tech bike, a pull toy frog, twilight ladybug, and cute clothes, every one of our friends hit the target with their gifts.
Michelle, Maya and I continued the celebration on our own. On Maya’s actual birthday, we photo and video documented her big day. Here’s the quick rundown of events from 7/1/08. First, we woke up and went for a nice long walk to Sweet Mandy B’s for some muffins. Mommy and daddy got scones, Maya got a blueberry muffin. We ate those with the intent of hitting a park and some swings on the way back. Maya was a little tired, so we skipped the swings. After the morning nap, the fam went to Solomon’s on Elston for some lunch. None of us had been and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and great taste of the food (it’s a sandwich shop that you would drive right by and not even notice it). After lunch, we took Maya to see her first ever movie in a theatre. The decision between Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda was a tough one, but we thought that she would enjoy the more cartoony look of KFP. So, we went to see that and she 1/2 loved it half wanted to run around in the dark. She was cute, jumping up and down on my lap, screaming at the screen during action packed sequences. Maya spent 1/2 of the movie in the hall trying to play a race car video game (much to mommy chagrin). After the movie, we took our afternoon nap. Post afternoon nap, we packed up Maya, went for another walk, only this time, we ended up at Holstein Park public pool. Maya is a big fan of water and just loves it, so we thought this would be a perfect. She splashed, swam with us and laid in the sun for more than an hour. The evening concluded with dinner at Pequods Pizzeria. Maya ordered some pasta and mommy and daddy shared a pizza. All in all, an action packed day for a big girl.
In an ordinary family, that might have been the end of it all, but not for the Angels. When we do something we go to the nth degree and do it right. The following weekend (I told you it was a week long celebration), we had another friends and family party at Nana and Papa Goebel’s. We had leftover BBQ, cake, and other picnic type foods. Maya was so happy to see everyone, play in the pool, eat great food and again, get a bunch of nice presents. The party was a success and the night concluded with a fireworks display in good old Ottawa. Maya, was very impressed with the fireworks, she would clap and scream everytime one burst, she is too cute. Michelle, myself and anyone who gets to be involved in this little one’s life should consider themselves quite fortunate.
TLTQ (too legit to quit) til next time...
